An eclectic assortment of work from arguably the best architecture institution in the world, and it lived up to the name. The work presented from the summer school class was superior then the work I had seen in graduation shows in Australia and Scandinavia. As I lost myself in the sheer mass of work and beguiling by the presentation standards of the AA. I was quite inspiring to see such an assortment of styles, and environmental conditions explored by the students. Perhaps heavy on the art and less on the architecture, I felt that the true freedom to express ones self artistically was pushed and explored by every student.
Such a heavy artistic sway leads many to think twice about the AA as a real primer for the industry itself. But in saying, that is why the RIBA holds a part 1 and 2 architect assistant role prior to registration and the alumni roll stops the sceptics in their tracks. Not to mention a impressive teaching staff including; Mark Cousins and Alison Brooks adding to an impressive school which will be discussed in a latter post.
